Frequently Asked Questions about Reindeer
In love..
.. yes, we are. Reindeer are just too much fun. You have to love reindeer. Enjoy the animals when you get to meet them in the wild at a distance or at a farm, very close.
The reindeer is extremely versatile , in every sense of the word. It is both a wild and free animal and a domesticated animal that patiently fulfills many tasks and functions. It is a source of many products . Think of the skins, the meat, the milk and the bones. You should not forget that the Saami, the originally nomadic people , literally use every fiber of the animal and know how to make it into a food or utensil. The reindeer also has a sacred meaning for the Saami and is often expressed in art and (super)belief.
Our own experiences
Just like the first encounter with a moose, your first encounter with a reindeer is also a very special experience. Often that first encounter is fleeting or at a distance. After all, they are wild animals. Our first encounter was on the road, along the road, from the car, somewhere in Norway, on the way to the Lofoten.
The reindeer are of course much more approachable if you meet them in an organised way. These reindeer are usually very tame and are open to a pet. Together with the reindeer, taking a sleigh ride in the evening to hunt for the Northern Lights, or taking a walk with the reindeer in the evening, that is really very beautiful. Especially when the Northern Lights dance cheerfully in the sky.

Rovaniemi Finland
Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi Finland is probably the most famous place in Finnish Lapland worldwide and is not only associated with Santa Claus but of course also with his reindeer and his reindeer sleigh. Very touristy but still very nice and cozy.
Lots of fun for small and big kids :)

Preparing reindeer meat
Reindeer meat is a deliciously clean product and it is offered in a wide range.
We often prepare it outside, on the go, often as 'skav'. Skav is very thinly sliced meat that is fried in a pan. With some meat spices and a Polarbröd heated on the fire, a real lapse snack.
Reindeer fillet, on the other hand, is really something to prepare at home. A very noble piece of meat.
