Åland has the flair of a tropical island. Sometimes it looks like a pirate island with the modern flair of luxury and prosperity on the one hand and the picturesque atmosphere of rural peace and space on the other. Åland is full of surprises.
You can easily stay on Åland in a hotel, a B&B or in a holiday home. We can tailor your stay on Åland to your wishes & we know Åland like the back of our hands because we have been there many times ourselves. We swoon and love to share our enthusiasm.
All trips we offer are a 'basic proposal'. Of course we are happy to help you organize your trip 'tailor-made' for you. Our proposals assume that you fly to Stockholm and continue your journey there with a rental car. You can of course also choose to do this trip from the Netherlands with your own car. That is part of the consultation we will have with you when you book with us.

Purpose of this trip : Yes, you will get to know Stockholm, the Skärgården, the Gulf of Bothnia & as a highlight you will stay on the magical island of Åland. Stockholm is a place where you can visit many attractions and where you can never make enough time for them. You will have to make a choice and we are happy to give you our tips on the way. After a few days you continue your journey and head for your stay on Åland. Depending on the season in which you travel, you will make choices about how you will experience these beautiful locations and you may not book this trip for the last time. We have made it several times ourselves, in different seasons. Delicious!
For whom ?: This trip is suitable for almost everyone . If you are reasonably fit and healthy, then you are suitable for this trip. Singles, couples, families, clubs, young and old. Stockholm, the Swedish capital
Your holiday starts with a flight to Sweden. You will stay in a hotel in or near Stockholm . It doesn't matter what time of year you choose to visit this beautiful and interesting city. Stockholm has a lot to offer.
You will naturally visit the most famous places such as the Gamla Stan and the palace. In addition , Stockholm has a large number of attractions that are really worth seeing. Think of Skansen or the super fun Abba museum .
Åland - a world apart
With a fairly short ferry crossing you can quickly reach Mariehamn , the small, cozy capital of Åland . Life here is a bit richer, classier and sometimes busier than on the rest of the island and the archipelago. Here in Mariehamn you really enjoy that. On the rest of the island you can immediately enjoy the truly peaceful island life . Unless you come in the middle of the high season, then you will find many Swedes and Finns on Åland who, just like you, come to enjoy this beautiful place.
Day program
Day 1 - Amsterdam - Stockholm (flight)
Today your holiday starts with a flight from Amsterdam to Stockholm . You are supposed to pick up your rental car in Stockholm and then drive to the hotel on your own. Enjoy some wonderful acclimatization and a first drink in your hotel. You can enjoy your evening meal as desired in, for example, a restaurant (not included). Rest well in the evening so that you can start the next day feeling fit.
Day 2. Stockholm Djurgården / 40 KM
Breakfast at the hotel (included). You visit Stockholm, the Swedish capital . It can be busy along the way, Stockholm is the busiest traffic area in Sweden. Take it nice and easy. Your goal is the Djurgården . Here you are free to visit the attractions: Vasamuseet, Skansen, Djurgården park or the Abba museum . You prepare the evening meal according to your own ideas.
Day 3. Skärgården - lunch cruise on the water / 40 KM
Breakfast at the hotel (included). You then drive to the inner harbor of Stockholm city center. There you will sail on a small cruise . Lunch on board . Beautiful views and impressions from the ship that takes you to a piece of Stockholm's Skärgården . The rest of the day is free to spend in Stockholm. Think of the Gamla Stan and the city shopping center. There may still be something on your wish list to do. You prepare the evening meal according to your own ideas.
Day 4. Stockholm - Åland / 50 KM
Today you get up early! In order to enjoy your ferry crossing to Åland , we must be on time for the 1st ferry.
The ship departs at 7:45 am. This means that you get up at 5:00 AM and need to be in the car by 5:30 AM so that you are on time for check-in (at least 1 hour before departure of the ship).
Once you are on the ship, your mini-cruise will begin and you will have breakfast on board (on your own). You will experience that the ships are beautiful and that you will make a fantastic crossing .
Thanks to the early departure, you arrive on Åland at a very nice time, at 2:10 PM. This means that you can get to your hotel in plenty of time and have time to explore the area immediately.
Day 5. Åland - Mariehamn and surroundings
You stay on the island of Jomala , the main island of Åland. You explore the pleasant center of Mariehamn, and you visit the Sjöfartskvarteret where you can also receive an explanation about building a wooden boat. A very informative exhibition. If you are smart about it, you can do everything on foot. Walking through the center you also have the Åland Sjöfartsmuseet & the sailing ship 'Pommern' within walking distance, which is open to the public. The adjoining Sjöpromenaden is home to a series of wonderful bars and restaurants with views of the pleasure harbour. The nice thing about Mariehamn is the great diversity of entertainment venues.
Day 6. Bjornhuvud - Eckerö / 40 KM
After breakfast at the hotel (included), you will travel to another accommodation. You drive to the island of Eckerö , which you can reach via a short bridge (free). A nice, not too long ride. Björnhuvud is located on Eckerö. There you will spend two nights in the very beautiful and quietly located Björnhofvda Gård. Björnhofvda Gård is a luxury BnB with its own restaurant. Pure indulgence. The surroundings of Björnhuvud and Eckerö are beautiful. Note : Depending on the availability of this location, your own wishes and the budget you wish to spend, we also offer other options. We do this in consultation. Take the rest of the day to relax in the surrounding area of the garden.
Day 7. Eckerö / 50 KM
The island of Eckerö is not large but it is home to some beautiful places. We will show you the way to a very cozy little fishing village with a coastline to die for.
If the weather is good, Eckerö will be perfect for you and you will enjoy it immensely.
And if you wish, there is also time and space to take a fun excursion on the water. Or you can rent a canoe or kayak to get active yourself. For more ideas, check out our guide.
Day 8. Eckerö - Amsterdam / 100 KM
After your breakfast at Björnhofvda Gård in Eckerö you drive to the Berghamn harbor in Eckerö (15 KM). There you take the ferry at 1:30 PM to Grissleholm (Sweden) for a crossing of only 1 hour.
From the coastal town of Grissleholm it is only 91 KM by car to Arlanda Airport . There you return the rental car and board the flight to Amsterdam .
